Sony Flexicarts were originally developed for supporting automation of both playback (commercials/PSAs and regular programming) and/or recording of feeds from satellite or other source, or any combination thereof. Proven as a incredibly stable device, Flexicarts were used throughout the world in large and small organsiations.

As digital video servers became standard, the role for the Flexicart became defunct, until they were revitalised as a means of automating the ingest of content (e.g. tape digitisation). Supporting up to 4 decks, and the whole range of DigiBeta formats (including HDCAM-SR) - Ortana works with partners who are able to supply, ship and maintain Sony Flexicarts. Making use of the native integration Ortana has with the Flexicart, the combined solution provides a very powerful and cost effective means of digitisation.
