Introducing our new Senior Support Engineer: Komala Sankara

We are very excited to welcome our newest Senior Support Engineer, Komala Sankara.

Komala, based in Kuala Lumpur-Malaysia, will help us to expand our growing global service team, providing our customers with follow the sun support.

Check out Komala’s interview for the Ortana Blog to hear more about her journey in media technology and customer service:

Hi, Komala, it's great having you join Ortana Media Group.Having worked in the broadcast sector for many years, could you please tell us about your experiences that led you to us?

Komala: I'm thrilled to be a part of the Ortana Media Group team! I took my first steps into my professional career at the SONY R&D Center (Malaysia), where I worked as a QA Engineer. This ultimately gave me a good insight of what it's like to work in a professional environment, where you work together as a team to reach a common goal.

I then made a big move in my career when I had the opportunity to work with ASTRO, the number one broadcaster in Malaysia. At the company, I was able to have an incredible insight about a completely new field, which I really enjoyed and learned many valuable skills.

I always try to give 100% to the work that I do, and my goal as a Playout Engineer and MAM & Business System Engineer is to provide the best service to my clients. This means developing strong, long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships with them in order to ensure the greatest possible customer experience.

Your technical experience is a great fit for an innovative company like Ortana. What was it about us that drew your attention?

Komala: I believe that innovation and originality are critical components of achieving success. Ortana is a rapidly expanding company that encourages its employees to express these qualities while also working as a team. I'm so excited to be a part of such an innovative company.

We’ve seen the broadcast technology sector evolve at a very fast pace over the last few years. Which recent innovations, in your opinion, are critical for media companies to remain competitive?

Komala: I believe that (OTT) platforms are the future of content distribution for digital users. Though television broadcasting is still relevant to-date, the fast-paced generations now crave for content on-the-go.

As a result, the OTT platform is one of the most effective approaches for the contemporary broadcast sector. For media organisations, it has become critical that their content is made available on OTT platforms to their audience. However, when content is published on platforms such as this, the metadata associated with the content is just as important as the actual content itself. Effective search for customers will be enabled by a clear orchestration of information for specific contents, and this will have a significant impact on the customer experience when accessing any content on OTT platforms.

We are witnessing a rapid transformation in the way that information is filtered, and metadata is managed, thanks to artificial intelligence technologies. By incorporating artificial intelligence technology into this process, we are not only better able to handle the content information, but we are also able to reduce the turnaround time before the video is delivered to the OTT platform.
